This collection consists of items associated with the carriage of mail by air which mark significant periods in the development of the service we know today.

The collection has a postcard sent on one of the first flights to carry mail in the UK in September 1911, on one of a series of flights to commemorate the Coronation of George V. A number of photocards depict BC Hucks in his monoplane around the time of his record breaking flight from Bath to London in 1912.

A number of items show a Zeppelin in flight and at its base and another card records the cachets used to mark the passage of mail across the South Atlantic in 1932 by Zeppelin. Items commemorate the first regular mail flights in the UK in 1934 and Jersey Airmails in 1937. Wartime mail is illustrated by a Christmas Air Letter Form. ‘Honour’ envelopes, and a Prisoner of War postcard.
