These covers were onboard the B.O.A.C. S25 Sandringham V Class flying boat “Portland”, G-AHZB when it crashed into the sea at Bahrain while attempting to land on 23rd August 1947. The plane was carrying a large volume of mail from a wide range of countries in the Far East. These covers were both posted on 18 August, one in China, one in Hong Kong. The HK cover also received a single line boxed cachet in violet: “DAMAGED BY SEA-WATER”.
