Two examples of Bath circular date stamps with 109 mileage mark. 1818 and 1822 bears a TOO LATE mark indicating the mail coach left. By 1818 the letter rate for 80 to 120 miles was 9d. Here the manuscript “9” has been crossed through and “1/6” substituted, indicating a double rate letter.
