This envelope was posted in Edinburgh on 16th March 1944 to a member of the Canadian Army overseas. The plane carrying the mail crashed and this envelope received the two-line cachet in violet: SALVAGED FROM / AIR CRASH. It may be assumed that this cover was recovered from the same air crash described in reference 2002-039-114.
