Description

This cover was posted in Los Angeles on September 19th, 1930, and was carried from there to Chicago, and on to Newark, New Jersey. It was on this latter sector that the plane's motor failed, and in making an emergency landing, it struck a telephone pole and burst into flames.

In charred condition, about 900 lbs. of mail was salvaged from the wreckage. It was taken to the local Post Office where a wreck cachet was applied, one of five different types recorded.
