Description

S.S. Oregon. Cunard line, carrying 598 bags of mail. Lost off Fire Island 14th March 1886.

461 bags recovered, washed up along the coast from Portland to Cape Hatteras.

The cause of the casualty was a collision with a schooner believed to be Charles H. Morse, between 3 and 4 a.m. on the morning of March 14th 1868.
