The Lady Holland - 1830
Description
The Lady Holland was a full rigged ship of 455 tons, built in 1811 at Chatham. She was on a voyage from London and Madeira for Madras and Bengal, when she struck during the night of February 13th 1830 on Dassen Island, near Saldanna Bay, South Africa, and went to pieces almost immediately.
The crew and passengers were saved, and landed on February 16th 1830 at the Cape of Good Hope. The wreck marking, which is the earliest recorded struck form type, was presumably applied at Madras when the mail arrived there in April 1930.
