This badly damaged wrapper POSTED IN London and addressed to Nigeria was recovered from the wreck of the B.O.A.C. Canadair C-4 Argonaut G-ALHL that crashed on the approach to King Idris Airport, Tripoli at night on 21 September 1955 in poor visibility and with strong winds. The wrapper received the two-line cachet in blue: SALVAGED AIR MAIL FROM / AIRCRAFT G-ALHL TRIPOLI LIBYA. The plane crashed after striking trees some 1200 feet short of the runway and 15 passengers and crew were killed out of a total of 47 occupants.  The accident investigation board report states that “an error of judgment on the part of the captain was found to have caused the accident.”
