A hand illustrated envelope showing a cannon firing a large cannon ball at a fortification, with the address written on the cannon ball. The penny red stamp is attached as the flag fluttering from the flagpole and has been cancelled with a London duplex dated 17 October 1870. It is a perforated stamp as used from 1854 onwards, but with the perforations cut away to give it the appearance of the earlier imperforate variety.
