This entire letter was posted without a stamp in Bath and received a BATH double arc postmark dated 12 April 1843. Postage was prepaid, as indicated by the manuscript “ppd” (= penny paid) and the “1” in red. The tombstone “PAID” mark was applied in London the following day on the journey to Chelmsford.
The letter was written by Mr. Strut to his god-daughter and refers to matters relating to local tithes in Little Baddow.
